First paragraph:

Your Majesty, your virtues are noble and illustrious, with blessings extending throughout the realm! Rituals and music are akin to a person's shadow, civil and military affairs are like the inside and outside of clothing. You have composed the dance piece "Bayu." Look, the dancers hold swords and crossbows, spears and halberds as the beginning of the dance. They move with swiftness, like eagles and falcons, exuding majestic momentum. Though it may appear chaotic, their movements are, in fact, governed by strict order. "Oh holy emperor, virtuous and grand, shining over the four seas. Rituals and music are like shadows, civil and military are like inside and outside, thus creating 'Bayu.' The dancers, with swords and crossbows in a row, spears and halberds at the start. Advancing and retreating like swift eagles and falcons, dragons fighting and leopards rising. Although seemingly disorderly, the movements follow a logic, with strict order in advance and retreat."

Second paragraph:

The sword is a short weapon, its maneuvers are unpredictable, perilous, and exhilarating. Its speed is as fast as lightning, spinning and looping with great precision. The dancers move in unison, sometimes coming together, sometimes dispersing. The sword strikes like lightning, the movements are swift and fierce, resembling phantoms, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, with various changes. All of this embodies the essence of military strategy and the discipline of army formations. "The sword is a short weapon, its power formidable. Faster than lightning, spinning and following the rules. With martial spirit in unison, sometimes together, sometimes apart. Lightning strikes like stars, appearing and disappearing. Similar to military tactics, army formation is the standard."

The crossbow is a long-range weapon, a defensive stronghold for the army, and its launch has its own rules. Although the crossbow itself is heavy and difficult to move, the arrows it shoots are incredibly fast, steady, and precise. Aim at the target and concentrate; you can hit small targets even at long distances. The dance music "Crossbow Music" is truly spectacular! The dance moves are varied, sometimes retreating like a swift stream, sometimes advancing like a flying bird, harmonious in five tones, with all eight instruments playing together, demonstrating the army's might and praising the majesty of the heavens. "The crossbow is the stronghold of the distant army, its launch is organic. The body is difficult to move, but it must be fast, heavy but not slow. Sharp and precise, hitting small targets from a distance. The music of 'Crossbow Music' is so wonderful! Varied changes, retreating like a swift stream, advancing like a flying bird. Five tones harmonizing, eight instruments in harmony. Demonstrating martial spirit, praising the majesty of heaven."

If military power weakens, it is not just a simple defeat; the country will also perish! The stories of Qin Shihuang and King Xu Yan are lessons from the past. The kings of past dynasties have learned from them, established effective governance, and strengthened military readiness. Civil governance and military strength must work in tandem to ensure the country's prosperity and development. "When military power is exhausted, it is not just defeat in the north. Weakness leads to defeat, and the country will perish. Qin Shihuang and Xu Yan have set examples for future generations. The kings of the past have learned from their mistakes, established good governance, and strengthened military skills. Only when civil governance and military strength complement each other can they achieve greatness."

It is often said that when one rises to a high status, one becomes easily proud and complacent; when one has too much, one is easily overthrown. Pride and complacency lead to danger, and being full leads to collapse. To avoid danger and potential collapse, one must strive to maintain balance. Only with balance can one endure, and only with clarity can one become clear. Civil governance and military achievements must be integrated and unified in order to conform to the principles of heaven. "It is said: When one is high, one is arrogant; when one is full, one is overflowing. Arrogance leads to danger, fullness leads to collapse. Avoiding danger and collapse, maintaining balance. Endurance comes from balance, clarity comes from turbidity. Integrating civil governance with military achievements is essential to align with the principles of heaven."

"Feather and Flute Dance Song"

In the beginning, when heaven and earth were first formed, there was chaos. Fuxi ushered in the era of fishing and hunting, enabling the people to be well-fed, warmly clothed, and to live in peace and contentment. Then Shen Nong taught the people to cultivate the land, a task that was far from easy, but finally provided everyone with a stable source of food, no longer needing to worry about food and drink. In the era of the Yellow Emperor, he set out to conquer all directions, unifying various tribes and establishing a powerful country, thereby establishing a unified system and standards. The Yellow Emperor waged wars across the land, living a nomadic life, hence the title "Xuanyuan." Following the Yellow Emperor, the wise rulers Yao and Shun governed diligently and loved the people, bringing peace to the world. Yu the Great tamed the waters, while King Tang and King Wu fought to pacify the chaos, but how could anyone expect to simply sit back and enjoy peace? Throughout history, wise and virtuous rulers diligently governed, earning the praise of the people, creating a scene of peace and harmony. The virtuous rulers, through their moral leadership, ensured peace across the four seas, brightened the sun and moon, and managed the country's affairs in an orderly manner, allowing the people to live in peace and contentment. The hidden dragon soared, and the auspicious phoenix took to the skies; with wind and rain in harmony, all things thrived, and auspicious signs emerged abundantly. The virtuous rulers uplifted the good and cast aside the wicked, blessings continued, and longevity matched the heavens.

"Feathered Bell Dance" This poem praises the achievements of the holy rulers of the past, from the ancient chaos to the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors, and then to the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties. The rise and fall of each dynasty demonstrates the cycles of governance and chaos. From Fuxi creating heaven and earth, to Shennong teaching people to farm, to the Yellow Emperor unifying the Huaxia, the reign of holy rulers like Yao, Shun, Yu, Tang, and others, generation after generation, ultimately formed the flourishing era of ritual and musical civilization. The virtues and blessings of these rulers spread far and wide, their wise rule allowing the people to live and work in peace, and the nation to be prosperous and stable. Yuan Kai assisted the holy ruler, and the entire realm rejoiced, a scene of prosperity and vitality. The vast cosmic vitality, lofty and pure, the five elements rotating, the sun and moon in their cycles, all things changing with time but continuing endlessly. The holy ruler inherits the mandate of heaven, provides for the people, educates them with morality, brings peace to all nations, and enjoys the blessings bestowed by heaven, with the national fortune continuing without end.

Next is the song of sacrifice, full of solemnity and sincerity. "I present my offerings with respect and reverence. At this auspicious moment, we make this offering." This is the song sung during sacrifices, expressing reverence for the spirits and sincere offerings, hoping that the spirits will accept the sacrifices and bless future generations. "Alas, the day shines upon us. Offer sacrifices in due time, and the spirits will descend. Once the spirits descend, they will bless and enjoy the offerings. Grant us endless blessings, receive the grace of heaven. The illustrious ancestors, the venerable holy ancestors. Bright and eminent ancestors, continuing the legacy in succession." May the blessings extend to future generations." This is all about the blessings of our ancestors.

Next, the song sings about the grand worship of ancestors in the courtyard, praying for their blessings, for a bountiful harvest, and for the prosperity of the nation. "Joyful music fills the courtyard, with offerings laid out in the hall. The ancestral temple is where our ancestors reside. The esteemed officials partake in the ceremonies. May the blessings be abundant and bring prosperity." This scene must be very solemn.

Then, the lyrics praise the merits of the ancestors, their immeasurable merits that have blessed the prosperity and longevity of our nation. Tigers and leopards are tamed, the emperor's rule is peaceful. Gentle from afar, selecting and appointing the talented. Establishing achievements and continuing the lineage, honoring the heavenly mandate." Truly a combination of civil and martial virtues!

Finally, this song summarizes the grandeur of sacrificial activities, expressing reverence for ancestors and good wishes for the country's future. "Sacrifices are a tradition, following the seasonal rituals. Paying respects at ancestral temples, with ritual music and ceremonies. All come to offer sacrifices, people from all over the land. Offerings are laid out, libations are poured. There are offerings of food, everything is prepared. Forever aspiring, feeling the times. Singing and dancing, harmonious music. Ancestors are pleased, blessing our nation. Under the heavens, all is well." The entire sacrificial ceremony is solemn and grand, expressing infinite respect for ancestors and praying for the eternal prosperity of the country!

In the court, the emperor sits with dignity, surrounded by civil and military officials, creating a scene of harmony. Extreme auspiciousness, exhaust the divine symbols." This song was composed to extol the Emperor's virtues, praising his governance of the country and the prosperous scene of the people living in peace and happiness. The first part talks about the Emperor's widespread blessings, the submission of all corners of the realm, "Embracing the remote descendants, pacifying the people of Qi. Carrying the blessings of heaven, no one is not a guest. No one is not a guest, his reign is long and prosperous. Bright and clear, harmonious and auspicious. Harmonious and auspicious, the Emperor thrives. Unity and harmony, the people rejoice. The three spirits harmonize, heralding the new reign." It means that he pacified the remote regions, governed the people well, received blessings from heaven, won the hearts of the people, brought peace to the world, and the country flourished. The Emperor is wise, the people are happy, heaven shows its power, all thanks to the new Emperor.

Next, the song praises the Emperor's benevolence and governing strategies, "The royal path extends to all corners of the realm, spreading kindness and virtue. Delve deeply into the principles, follow the teachings of the previous Emperor. The spiritual transformation is like the four seasons, the profound and sincere understanding of the mysterious. His virtue and benevolence embrace all directions, the nation enjoys peace, and all countries pay homage." It means that his royal path extends to all directions, showing kindness and virtue. He delves into the principles of governance, following the example of the previous Emperor. His virtue and transformation are natural and harmonious like the four seasons, he reveres the heavens sincerely, his blessings extend throughout the world, the country is stable, and all nations come to pay homage.

Then, praise the emperor's civil and military achievements, as well as the social stability and prosperity he brought, "The emperor's grace is vast, and the era is tranquil. The court etiquette is splendid, and the remote regions have submitted. People of all ethnicities wear magnificent attire to pay homage, the heavens and earth are embraced, blessings are abundant. His teachings spread far and wide, his virtues shine brightly." This means that the emperor's grand vision continues to develop, the world is peaceful and prosperous, court ceremonies are grand and solemn, even the remote regions have submitted, people of all ethnicities wear magnificent attire to pay homage, the heavens protect, blessings are abundant, teachings spread far and wide, and the emperor's virtues shine brightly.

The sounds of jade ornaments and bells resonate, observing the rituals. The king's virtues are praised, the splendors of the court are praised. Cultivating culture, traversing to Taikang. Bright and clear, forever prosperous." This means that this is the founding year, all the vassals come to pay homage, they offer tribute, pay respects to the emperor, play musical instruments, observe the rituals, praise the emperor's virtues, cultivate social customs, the world is peaceful, the emperor is wise, the country is forever prosperous.

This part praises the emperor's good governance and achievements, as well as the peace and prosperity he brought, "Only in the Yongchu era, virtues are prominent. Implementing the seven policies, promoting the five systems. Following the rites and norms, promoting the great civilization. The king's benevolence flows, the era of peace commences. Establishing teachings, recording the emperor's reign. Harmonizing with the spirits, honoring the ancestors with reverence. Extending the blessings, receiving good fortune." The brilliance of civil and military affairs is met with resounding praise. The royal path is pure, and virtues are increasingly refined. Bringing calm to all directions and peace to the nine regions. Promoting courtesy and transforming customs. Transforming customs leads to lasting harmony. Songs of prosperity herald success. Reciting the heroic deeds, which are boundless in greatness." This means that the ritual and music systems are perfect, the musical instruments are complete, the music performed surpasses ancient music, the singing and dancing all express praise for the emperor, the civil and military achievements are splendid, the praises are unceasing, the royal path is pure, and the emperor's virtues are ever more perfected, the borders are secure, and the world is at peace, promoting courtesy and changing social customs, leading to a harmonious society, the songs celebrate great achievements, and praising the emperor's merits will forever be passed down.

(The Huangzhong and Taicu sections include 'Morning Xi', 'Body to Harmony', 'Royal Path', 'Kaiyuan Chen', 'Ritual Has Its Tolerance' five songs. The Taicu consists of 'Five Jades', 'Embracing the Wilderness Descendants', 'Imperial Youji', 'Only Yongchu', 'Royal Path Pure' five songs.)" This means the song is divided into two sections, with different instruments performing distinct melodies.

Speaking of this grand ceremony, it is truly magnificent! With Yu He Jingming, the celestial monitor descends; the celestial signs are evident, and the heavens are bestowing their blessings! The music comes from Yi Yang, and the ceremony is both solemn and majestic, "Music comes from Yi Yang, rituals are based on Yin." The singing stirs the heart with its rich virtue, "Singing comes from abundance of virtue," and the dance captivates with its remarkable achievements, "Dance comes from deep accomplishments." The palaces and courtyards are neatly arranged, the steps are adorned with zithers, "Courtyards lined with palaces, steps adorned with zithers." Various musical instruments come together in harmony, with pipes and chimes in perfect accord, "Instruments playing in harmony, sounds of pipes and chimes in tune." Although "Xiao Shao" is an ancient piece of music, yet today, it remains flawless, "Xiao Shao is ancient, yet today it remains flawless." This grand ceremony showcases the ruler's virtuous governance and the harmony of the world, "The path is harmonious, and virtue resounds throughout the land." This grand event illuminates the foundation of the empire, "Shining upon my imperial foundation," in harmony with the heavens, "Harmony with the divine spirits." This ritual influences the world, "Rituals bring harmony to all realms," and the world finds its natural harmony, "Harmony comes naturally." Like the clouds in the sky, heralding auspicious signs, "Like those clouds in the Milky Way, as a sign in the heavens." The people rejoice, immersed in a golden age, "Joyful and harmonious, like those of old." Playing the "Shao" music, may it endure through the ages, "Striking the bells with 'Shao', may it never decline for generations."

After this, another performance began, praising the wise monarch. "The music may seem false, but it is truly the birth of heavenly virtue," this grand dance of music is the grace bestowed by heaven. The monarch cultivates virtue from within, "governing diligently and showing compassion," the royal foundations are strong, "royal principles are firm." Like a dragon soaring through the heavens, "the dragon soars in the sky," the monarch serves as a model for all nations, "setting an example for all nations." The monarch is wise and martial, "revering the bright as divine," handling political affairs in the court with depth and wisdom, "handling court affairs with deep contemplation." Without words, everything is transformed, "silent influence, all things are virtuous." Proclaiming success to the heavens and marking achievements, "achieving success in heaven, engraving achievements." The monarch governs diligently and loves the people, "carefully governing, showing great kindness." Following the will of heaven, establishing systems, "following heaven to establish, communicating with the divine," maintaining peace within the realm, "ensuring the borders are secure." The monarch rules with a gentle hand, "ruling with a gentle hand, governing with humility among the people." Then, they performed the "Great Yu" dance, "performing the 'Great Yu' dance, honoring the divine and the earthly," expressing awe for heaven and earth. This prosperous era will endure for generations, "pure blessings that will endure for generations." Next are the lyrics of the "Sùchéng Music," divided into two parts: the first part is "honoring filial piety and revering the sacred with utmost respect. Honoring heaven with offerings, celebrating to the fullest. The ceremony is in order, the ceremonial attire and feathers are splendid. The fragrance of flowers is strong, the ceremonial vessels are grand. Assisting with offerings, celebrating with treasures. The guests are gathered, the music resonates with solemnity. Selecting gifts in advance, solemn as if inheriting. Only for the sake of blessings, the imperial celebration is clear." The second part is "honoring the ceremony with dignity, radiating with grace. Respectful of the gods, abundant sacrificial offerings. Solemn and strict in the palace, dignified and respected. The spirits of the imperial ancestors bestow their blessings, all the gods are present. Warning the night sincerely, preparing for the morning court. According to the dawn, the dawn brings light to the sky. Celebrating the auspicious occasion, presenting fragrant offerings. Assisting the emperor's bright virtue, eternal blessings flowing." Both of these lyrics praise the grand sacrificial ceremony, expressing respect for ancestors and the divine, as well as wishing for the prosperity of the nation.

As the lyrics of "Yinsheng Music" are not provided, they cannot be translated. First, we must properly offer sacrifices, show filial piety, and commemorate the spirits of our ancestors. We need to use premium millet and carefully prepare the offerings. The robust livestock are ready, and the offerings are plentiful enough to honor our ancestors, and we hope the emperor will be satisfied. The fragrance wafts through the air, and the flames dance around us; the spirits can surely sense our sincerity. This grand sacrificial ceremony is profoundly solemn and dignified! Next are the lyrics of "Jiajian Music": The sacrifice has begun, everything is done according to the rituals. The six ceremonial rites and the orderly conduct of the nine ministries are in place. The livestock offerings are ready, and the ceremony is set up. We clean carefully, serving the spirits with piety. The offerings are neatly arranged, and the music is enchanting and harmonious, echoing in the palace and resounding through the sky. The hall is solemn and dignified, and the atmosphere is reverent and harmonious. We embrace this sacred moment with heartfelt sincerity, dressed in our finest attire. We pray for the spirits' blessings—for the emperor, for our country, for peace and prosperity throughout the ages. The sacrificial ceremony is grand and orderly, with everyone participating in harmony. Then come the lyrics of "Shaohua Music" welcoming the spirits: The palace stands magnificently, illuminated by brilliant lights. The palace dazzles, radiating brilliance at every turn. The spirits appear to be among us, and the entire palace is suffused with fragrance. The fire glows in the night, while the morning water sparkles clear. Golden branches droop from the trees, while emerald lanterns hang high. The still water mirrors the starry sky, and the brilliant Milky Way stretches across the sky. We began the sacrificial rites early, filled with sincere intentions, praying for the spirits to descend and bless our land and people.

The emperor entered the north gate of the temple, and the music that played was "Eternal Joy": the emperor's wisdom and filial piety are evident. The procession was grand and magnificent, radiating majesty. The night was peaceful, and the morning was full of hope. Golden light shimmered, and a gentle jade breeze swept through. We followed the ritual of worship, respectfully paying homage to our ancestors.

Finally, the Grand Minister sang two verses at the sacrificial site: the emperor presided over the ceremony, and what a memorable day it was! All nine palace gates were opened, and the four spiritual beasts guarded the hall. The music was melodious, and the procession was orderly. The spirits accepted the offerings, and the air was filled with the fragrance of incense.
